Nigeria’s expenditure for power distribution is currently on the rise whereby N7 trillion is accounted as annual expenses to generate renewable energy. The virtual new conference hosted by Stephen Ogboko in Lagos — revealed this outraging expense while attempting to weigh the possibilities of innovating the Nigerian tech sector.

The virtual news conference was themed “Analysing the Benefits of Technological Innovation,” focused on cleansing the polluted power sector with adequate renewable energy for supply. The virtual news conference aimed at adding value to the Nigerian power sector has been less productive but demands more investment to fuel operations.

For context, the power supply in Nigeria is inadequate with a poor network of electrical cables. Underserved regions in Nigeria do not experience electricity despite these huge amounts of investment that are expected to yield massive energy distribution nationwide.

The Nigerian power sector happens to be otherwise, whereby several businesses that depend on renewable energy supplied to bolster sales have reportedly sought alternative means of energy supply.

According to Chief Operating Officer, Off-Grid Tech Solutions Ltd, Stephen Ogboko, he enlisted Nigeria amongst African countries that require sufficient power supply to bolster national economic growth —“a significant amount of the economy is powered largely by small scale generators.”

While those with no alternative option for energy supply influence 70% of Nigeria’s population — “this could be effectively tackled with the deployment of off-grid renewable energy solutions by making electricity more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.”

For contrast, the government can invest in domestic technology companies to offer solutions to off-grid renewable energy to underserved regions of Nigeria.

This tech innovation is reportedly a means of managing a cost-efficiency distribution of power supply in Nigeria — “this is cost-effective and lasting solutions to societal problems.”
